Old Firehouse Feeding Ministry
The Old Firehouse operates out of our original facility, the former East Naples Fire Station. When we moved into our current shelter in 1994, the old one became a dedicated soup kitchen. (For history's sake, we kept the name!) On average, we prepare 200 meals per day to feed anyone who is homeless and/or hungry. With the recent downturn in the economy, this totals to over 140,000 meals served each year. To date, St. Matthew's House has served over TWO MILLION meals since our start in 1988!
The Old Firehouse recently underwent major renovations. The new facility now houses 16 of St. Matthew's House residents who are in transition out of our program. It also offers clean, safe public restrooms. Having never missed a day of serving meals, The Old Firehouse continues to feed the homeless, hungry and needy of our community, however the picnic tables are now located on property. The Grand Reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Old Firehouse was held on October 29th, 2008. Read all about it here.
Tribute Paver Program
Now you can be a part of the 20-year St. Matthew's House history by purchasing a tribute paver to be placed in the front walkway of the Old Firehouse! Your paver purchase helps reduce the cost of Old Firehouse renovations, while you are remembered forever for your generosity. If orders exceed space, then pavers will be placed at St. Matthew's House main shelter. Go to our Tribute Paver Program and order yours today!
